FAQ

What is a proxy?

How proxies work and why you might need one for MinecraftAFK. Learn how an alternate IP lets you run more accounts past a Minecraft server's per-IP limit.

A proxy is an alternate IP address. Some Minecraft servers cap how many accounts can connect from a single IP - proxies let each account look like it's coming from a different location, so you can run more accounts without hitting the server's per-IP limit.

Example

A server allows 3 accounts per IP and you have 6. Assign a proxy to half of them and the proxied 3 connect from the proxy's IP, while the other 3 use your regular connection - six accounts online, no per-IP cap triggered.

Recommendations

  • Type: SOCKS5. HTTP works but is unreliable for Minecraft.
  • Source: private datacenter proxies are far more dependable than residential ones for this use case.
  • IP version: IPv4 is preferred; ISP proxies are also fine.
  • Region: doesn't matter unless the server is region-locked (e.g. .pl, .tr domains).

Free public proxies are usually unreliable and high-ping, and many servers detect and block them outright. If a server is strict about VPNs/proxies, quality matters a lot - see VPN blocks (full/half).
